PARP Opening Ceremony & Calendar of Events

March 14 – Opening Ceremonies & International Dress Up Day: Dress to represent a country of your choosing for our opening ceremonies, or wear red, white & blue
March 16 – Cozy up to reading. PAJAMA day in school with our first evening reader story, from our very own Mr. Snyder. Links will be posted on the Walt Whitman website.
March 22 – Reading Olympics at Home: Email pictures of what reading looks like in your home/family to your classroom teacher. We will share the photos on the screen at school and on our school website.
March 31– Family recipe night – Take some time to read a recipe with your family and prepare it! Share pictures again with your classroom teacher.
Wednesday Night Virtual Bedtime stories – Click on the link to enjoy a bedtime story at 7:30pm, told by some of our “gold-medal” teachers and staff.

Prize Announcement Days (Fridays): One of the goals of PARP is to encourage reading at home. Children will log their minutes read each night in a google form for the week. Links will be posted on the PARP calendar, as well as the PTA Facebook page. Prizes will be awarded to the child who reads the most in each grade, as well as a class with the most minutes read for the week.
April 11 Dress Up as Your Favorite Athlete Day – Kick-off the last week of PARP with a celebration of athletic skill. Students are invited to dress as an olympian of any of their favorite athletes!
April 12 & 13 – Closing Ceremonies – Final announcements and prizes will be made during the school day, complete with a little giveaway for all the kids. Look out for a Sign Up Genius with information about opportunities to read with your child’s class
